Case Study

Najeeba from Afghanistan fled her country at the age of 12 because her family is Hazara a minority that was being persecuted which meant whenever they went out in public they would have to put up with constent abuse and threats. Everyday she witnessed one of her neighbours or friends were being kidnapped and weren't seen again. She also knew people who were made sell there daughters and their sons had been taken by the taliban and turned into soldiers to fight for the taliban. Before they left the taliban closed down there school because girls were being tought there then the taliban killed the iranian teacher who kept teaching the girls at her house. Najeebas father organised for them to leave the country and travel to pakistan by bus , car and foot. they didn't have passports or any paperwork with them but her father managed to get them on a plane out of pakistan to indonesia where from there they got on a boat and travelled for several days to Australia while on their way here the boat was that crowded that they had to hold there knees against there chest to fit. They were sea sick and scared of drowning after 10 days the Australian navy picked them up and brought them here to a detention centre in WA. While they were in the detention centre they would see people start to fight then they would just go crazy but the day finally arrived when they got their visa's granted they were so happy then they were let out of the detention centre and they are now living a normal life were they dont have to worry about being abused or threatend when they go outside in public.

  1. Good summary Jamie. Don't forget to proof-read over your work to check for the correct use of there/their & capitals for place names Pakistan, Iranian, etc. Also capitals for Navy & Taliban - don't rush! Well done. Ms Lidgerwood
